ME/CFS and Chronic Fatigue

Exhaustion that rest does not touch deserves a careful, paced and unhurried look at the roots. ME/CFS and long-term fatigue involve profound exhaustion, post-exertional crashes and a body that no longer feels reliable.

I’m a Consultant psychologically informed Chartered Physiotherapist and Somatic Experiencing® Trauma Therapist in Wokingham. I look at the nervous system, protective patterns and life history behind the symptoms, not current fatigue and pain.

Why treating the symptom is not enough

Pushing through, or being told to simply exercise more, can make things worse. Treating the muscles or joints alone rarely touches the deeper problem, which often involves a nervous system stuck in a protective state.

We will explore the roots of your symptoms

After a thorough assessment, I look at how your body manages energy, stress and recovery, and what was happening in your life as the fatigue developed. We work gently, with the lightest touch and the shortest sessions that are useful, so the work never costs more than it gives.

What working together looks like

Pacing is part of the treatment. We keep sessions short when needed, avoid overload, and watch how you respond over the days that follow.

Possible symptoms

What people tell me:

  • Exhaustion that is not relieved by rest
  • Crashes after small amounts of activity
  • Brain fog, dizziness and unrefreshing sleep
  • Sensitivity to light, sound and stimulation
  • Grief about the life you had before

Frequently asked Questions

Over the decades I have found ways to help people do much more than pacing and the usual offerings. I have found a way of working with mind and body together and understanding how to resolve a traumatised  nervous system and the patterns behind long-term fatigue, at a pace your body can manage.

The work is paced carefully and kept gentle. We adjust immediately if it we notice your system reaching early signs of reaching limits in capacity.

A space for your healing journey

Whilst I recognise that your system may not “feel” safe – I recognise that and work with it in the session and, over time, create  a space in which you can feel an ever increasing sense of internalised safety.
