Rodger Duckworth is an HCPC-registered, psychologically informed Chartered Physiotherapist and somatic trauma therapist in Wokingham, Berkshire, offering somatic trauma therapy for complex trauma, developmental and attachment trauma, sexual harm and long-term chronic pain or fatigue.
I am a Chartered Physiotherapist and somatic therapist with over 36 years of experience. I work with people whose bodies and relationships are still shaped by what they have been through: complex trauma, early attachment wounds, and the protective patterns the body holds long after the danger has gone.

There is no one treatment or healing technique that can fix everything. If there were, we would all be doing it! We would be fit, healthy and well with all the answers.
I rarely use one technique on its own. In fact I am not sure would ever say I use “a technique”. In the end I just meet you where you are and the sessions dont feel like a technique. I use a life experience in a blend Physiotherapy and manual therapy, movement, craniosacral and fascial work, acupuncture, Somatic Experiencing, NeuroAffective Touch, EMDR and conversation blend through every session as we move through your healing journey together.
A somatic trauma therapist works with the body as well as the story. Rodger Duckworth uses conversation, body awareness, nervous system training, movement and, if you choose it, consented touch to help the nervous system process trauma.
My work is broader than talk therapy although may include it. Many clients / patients report that they seek out working with me having had talk therapy or conventional psychotherapy and feel that issues still remain somewhat.
We need to work with the embodied experience of the story or the emotion – which is felt in the body and talk alone may not resolve this fully. Th work is potentially vast in options from talking, working with image, emotional overwhelm or disconnect, physiological body issues, nervous system training, attachment, relationship and more.
So in essence: there is a psychotherapeutic element BUT it adds the body and connects body and mind – holistically.

Not necessarily. Touch is always optional and only used with your explicit agreement. Of course my background is over 3 decades as a skilled bodyworker but often we work without touch more that people imagine. Its always discussed together
Whilst I recognise that your system may not “feel” safe – I recognise that and work with it in the session and, over time, create a space in which you can feel an ever increasing sense of internalised safety.
